New Zealand’s mix of unique culture and technological innovation will collide at Tourism New Zealand’s IMEX stand.

New Zealand Māori artist Graham Hoete – aka Mr. G – has painted large-scale photorealistic murals for clients across New Zealand, Australia, and the United States. Using a VR headset, he will ‘paint’ a mural on a digital screen at the New Zealand stand (B320) live throughout the IMEX show.

The mural will highlight both New Zealand’s unique and engaging culture, and its innovative approach and digital and screen expertise. It will be Hoete’s largest mural created using this medium to date. With three new, world-class convention centres, New Zealand has extended its capacity and capability to host large international conferences and events.

Tourism New Zealand General Manager NZ and Business Events Bjoern Spreitzer says: “We can’t wait to meet in person and update event planners on what’s new in New Zealand, from our cutting-edge conference centres to opportunities to make meaningful connections with culture, people, and the environment.”

Sustainable exhibition stand

The New Zealand stand is signed up to the IMEX People and Planet Pledge. The stand construction has been designed utilising hired, reusable stock and sustainably produced flooring and graphic substrates made to be reused, then repurposed at end of life. As well as incorporating a more environmentally (and trade show) friendly way to create a mural, the use of LED video wall with digital projections consumes less power and replaces the need for creating oversize printed graphic panels.

The IMEX stand will showcase Tourism New Zealand Business Events, Auckland Convention Bureau, Business Events Wellington, ChristchurchNZ, Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre, New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC), and destination management companies Arinex and PPG Tours.

Alongside appointment streams, the stand will feature regular group presentations outlining top destinations, products, and initiatives for business events in New Zealand. Refreshments will be available for those wanting to come for kōrero and kai – a chat and a snack – to discover what New Zealand can offer for their next event.

Hoete says the mural will focus on the connection between people and Te Taio – nature. “At the heart of my work is hononga – connection. I believe the most important aspect of Indigenous art is connection through whakapapa/genealogy to our stories. I’m happy to share more about our beautiful culture and country in person, so nau mai haere mai ki te kōrero, everyone is most welcome to come have a chat.”
