Cankarjev dom – Cultural and Congress Centre Ljubljana, located in the heart of the Slovenia’s capital, will from 27 of May until 30 of May host the meeting of the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS). One of the biggest congresses hosted in Slovenia in 2018, will consist of 1300 delegates from all around the world: not just from Europe, but also from Japan, South Korea, India, China, Canada, USA and from all of the countries from the Southern American continent.
Thoracic surgeons cure the illnesses of all of the organs inside the thoracic cavity, except for the heart. »In most of the cases, the cure is centred to lung cancer and to esophageal cancer,« says Mr.Marko Bitenc, Chair of the Slovenian Local Organizing Committee. The attendees will join lectures and will discuss better options for treating these illnesses and about ways of diagnose them earlier on so that the curing can be more efficient.
The event will also offer an occasion to »Celebrate 25 years of constant presence, growth and strength in the Thoracic Surgical Fraternity«, the President of the ESTS, Mr. Kostas Papagiannopoulos notes. A programme will include renowned speakers, Junior Surgeons and Industry partners. The Program Committee is this year encouraging stronger junior family member participation, new educational streamlined pathways will be introduced, and the exhibition village will offer first hand introduction to new and exciting technology with one to one interaction.
Mr.Marko Bitenc, Chair of the Slovenian Local Organizing Committee, notes that Cankarjev dom – Cultural and Congress Centre Ljubljana has a great benefit as a venue for this large and important event: »It is located in the very center of Ljubljana so the delegates are able to walk from all the hotels to the Congress Centre and from the Congress Centre to the old medieval attractive parts of Ljubljana with nice restaurants and cafes.«
The European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS) joins together members coming from 70 different countries all over the world. Its mission is to improve quality in all aspects of specialty: from clinical and surgical management of patients to education, training and credentialing of thoracic surgeons worldwide. Every year since 1993, a European Conference on General Thoracic Surgery is celebrated, achieving a high quality scientific content. In the latest years, several educational courses and the School of Thoracic Surgery are gaining special prominence.
