In July, GR – Ljubljana exhibition and convention centre hosted the MPEG 123 that lasted from the 9th of July until the 20th of July. This international scientific conference was attended by around 400 experts from 200 companies, organisations and universities of 20 countries, mainly from Europe, but also from USA, South Korea, Japan, and China.

The Moving Pictures Experts Group (MPEG) is a working group of ISO/IEC with the mission to develop standards for coded representation of digital audio and video and related data. Since 1988, when it was established, the group has produced standards that help European industry offer end users an ever more enjoyable digital media experience.

In a world where information technology, consumer electronics, entertainment and telecommunication products and content variously converge by incorporating increasingly sophisticated technologies and the need for timely available standards is as strong as ever, MPEG provides a proven mechanism to bring research results into standards that promote innovation for the benefit of Europe.

Thus, the conference had an important scientific note. The Conference with its experts’ groups supports the operation of the European market and gives it the base for quicker development from this field in the EU ground.
