The Government of Sarawak will enhance the state’s social infrastructures and facilities to support the growth of Business Events (meetings, incentives, conferences, incentives) sector.

Sarawak’s Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg enforces Business Events are important components to not only promote but to develop Sarawak as a destination in its entirety.

“The government has invested a lot of funds to upgrade the state’s facilities in order to provide accommodations, event venues and recreational facilities to promote Sarawak as a destination for Business Events,” commented Abang Johari at a press conference after the 9th Anak Sarawak Awards, held in conjunction with Sarawak’s first Business Events conference, the Business Events Tribal Meet (TriBE 2018) held last Friday.

An initiative of Sarawak Convention Bureau, TriBE 2018 drew 300 selected Business Events experts from national associations, sector partners, global and national media, and government officials in attending its 3 segments – TriBE Xchange educational session which featured 6 global speakers and renowned thought leaders, the launch of the dedicated BESarawak Alliance (BESA) platform to strengthen ties between government ministries and their agencies, as well as the commemorative flagship award for Business Events – the 9th Anak Sarawak Awards under TriBE Honour.

Among the first BESA ambassadors were:

  • Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development represented by minister YB Dato Sri Hajjah Fatimah Abdullah.
  • Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture,Native Land and Regional Development represented by permanent secretary Datu Ik Pahon Joyik.
  • Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth & Sports represented by permanent secretary Mr Hii Chang Kee.
  • Sarawak Multimedia Authority represented by General Manager Dr Zaidi Razak.
  • Sarawak Centre for Performance Excellence represented by Chief Executive Officer Dr Asleena Haji Helmi.

“We also honour the contribution of sector partners in cultivating a thriving Business Events ecosystem. The 9th Anak Sarawak Awards celebrates these achievements, recognise excellence, and honours the driving force of this sector,” comments the Minister for Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth & Sports.

Chairman of SCB, YB Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr.Muhammad Leo Michael Toyad Abdullah acknowledged the importance of recognition, “With the Anak Sarawak Awards as an affirmation of excellence, we can empower the current passionate sector partners, and incubate new talents.”

SCB’s Chief Operating Officer Amelia Roziman congratulate all the winners as well as the finalists, commenting that “beyond the recognition, the Anak Sarawak Awards is a platform for our sector partners to gain greater exposure, create new alliances, enhance the Sarawak brand, and co-develop the sector.”

“This is what TriBE 2018 – a celebration of excellence, a remarkable beginning of new alliances, and redefining what global tribes can do together. TriBE 2018 is just a preview of what is to come,” she concluded.

TriBE 2018 is a one-day conference aimed as a preview for the upcoming international full-fledged conference, the TriBE Assembly happening in 2020.
