Two of the Cankarjev dom – Cultural and Congress Centre‘s halls are named after a woman. We have already written about the beautiful Lili Novy Hall named after the first Slovene female lyric poet. This time we look into a special hall that actually works as a black box and is, thus, an »out-of-the-box box« intended for event organisers who are up for a different and unusual venue offering an intimate and artistic experience of a business meeting. We look into the Duša Počkaj Hall.
WHO WAS DUŠA POČKAJ
Duša Počkaj (1924-1982) was one of the leading theatre and film actresses in Slovene history who created distinctive roles still treasured in Slovene cultural and artistic memory today. From 1946 until her death in 1982 she was a member of the Ljubljana National Drama Theatre ensemble (Ljubljana National Drama Theatre is located in a close vicinity to Cankarjev dom).
Her oeuvre consists of more than 100 theatre and film roles, and more than 100 radio dramas. She started acting in films in the early 1950s and acted in 16 Yugoslav films. Her biggest success was the starring role in the 1961 film Dancing in the Rain (Ples v dežju) directed by Boštjan Hladnik, for which she won the Golden Arena (Yugoslav Film Awards until 1990; since 1990 named Croatian Film Awards) for Best Actress award.
Duša Počkaj Hall is the smallest Cankarjev dom – Cultural and Congress Centre’s stage with the auditorium style of a black box theatre. Its character provides for an intimate venue catering for countless artistic visions. This special black box, very popular among event planners who seek a venue with a character, provides the ultimate creative platform and a great setting for lectures, presentations, corporate events, etc. When combined with the adjacent CD Gallery, it becomes an ideal exhibition space.
It is 116 square meters in size and it allows for a cinema setup (72), classroom (40), boardroom (30), and reception (70).
Duša Počkaj Hall, the hall as intimate, artistic, and special as Duša Počkaj was – the immortal Slovenian actress.
The CD Congress Centre’s team cooperates with three catering providers: Jezeršek Catering, Maxi Catering, and Vivo Catering. According to client’s wishes, the client can either arrange all of the catering with one of these three providers, or the CD staff will do it for them.
Since the Duša Počkaj Hall is located in one of the most important Slovenian cultural centres that bursts at the seams with the offer of arts and culture, there is no need to look for incentive programmes anywhere else. Everything is right there, just a few steps away: concerts, exhibitions, movie festivals, theatre and dance performances, etc..
