Golden and Silver series 2018/2019 (Zlati in Srebrni abonma), the flagship of Cankarjev dom – Cultural and Congress Centre Ljubljana, cover a well-chosen selection of renowned performers of various genres, and a wide range of artworks, including some that have never been staged in Cankarjev dom before.

The specialty of the orchestral cycle will be the concert version of Kserks, George F. Händle’s opera, performed by the specialized ensemble Il Pommo d’Oro. Among its otherworldly singers, who are regarded as the protagonists of the international baroque scene, particularly stand out the exceptional Vivica Genaux, the famous Franco Fagioli, and the admired Francesca Aspromonte. Ljubljana’s performance will be part of the European tour stretching from Vienna Theater an der Wien to the Lisbon center of Gulbenkian.

The Dvořák’s dramatic cantata  The Spectre’s Bride written for orchestra, choir, and three soloists has never been heard in the Gallus Hall before. The composition of the dramatic depth will be recreated by the Slovak National Philharmonic Orchestra and the choir, alongside prominent vocal soloists under the baton of Rastislav Štúra.

In September and in April, top performers as Philharmonia Orchestra and the Dresden Philharmonic return with the main conductors of Salonen, Sanderling, with whom Cankarjev dom’s stage has in the past years experienced unforgettable performances.

This time, the role of the conductor will be taken by the exceptional musician François Leleux, who is performing as a brilliant painter in this repertoire, with one of the leading violinist Lisa Batiashvili. The concert will conclude with the musical fireworks of the long-awaited pianist Yuja Wang, who will recreate Ravel’s and Shostakovich’s piano concerts with the Luxembourg Philharmonic in a great style of dramatic exultation.
