Ljubljana is not just the Open City, but also just as any other progressive capital, is the Genius City that welcomes and nests many centers connected to the newest business models. One of the most recognised city’s contemporary business sets is the Technology Park Ljubljana.
This largest innovation ecosystem for commercialisation of knowledge and technology in South-East Europe, was formed in 1995 when the company Tehnološki Park Ljubljana (TPL) was incorporated and the first offices were open in the buildings conveniently built close to Ljubljana’s forests on one side and closed to the motor-way ring, but only 5km from the city centre. TPL was established as an organisation representing a support and stimulating business environment enabling the development of technological entrepreneurship of the highest level.
By providing appropriate infrastructure, services and promotion, it motivates the technological entre- preneurial potential in the region and helps realize knowledge-based start ups with great potential. At the same time, it allows alliances and synergies to be established with both the domestic and foreign developmental, research and market environment.
Under its umbrella, TPL brings together over 300 companies with more than 1,400 employees. In addition to its image, reputation and credibility, the organisation also offers its members full entrepreneurial support, including the search for business and strategic alliances. For its support to development of over 300 companies and numerous visitors, the TPL is also called the Smart City.
TPL’s main premises in Ljubljana Brdo provide some functional meeting facilities with AV equipment and free Wi-Fi that can be rented for smaller conferences, seminars, lectures and meetings. The larger unit (max. 170 participants) is flexible and partitionable. The location’s advantage is the close vicinity (500 m) to the motor- way ring, while the city centre is 5 km away.
With the carriers of regional development, the Technology Park Ljubljana co-creates and implements internationally-recognised, tailored and highly efficient strategies, programs and services to increase regional innovation capacity. Thus, the Technology Park Ljubljana is ‘a city inside a city’, or rather, ‘the Smart City inside the Open City.’
