ICCA President Nina Freysen-Pretorius announced today during the General Assembly at the 57th ICCA Congress in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, that the city of Cartagena, Colombia will be the host of the 60th ICCA Congress in 2021.

The ICCA Congress is the flagship event of the International Congress and Convention Association and is highly-anticipated among professionals in the global meetings industry for its high-quality education, networking, and business development opportunities.

The ICCA Congress returning to South America after 2015

ICCA President Nina Freysen-Pretorius said: “The Board is excited to return with the ICCA Congress to Latin America for the first time since Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2015. We were very impressed with the Colombian bid, in which they presented their ‘pride, passion and purpose’-themed campaign. Colombia has the largest amount of ICCA members in Latin America and with governmental backing from the Colombian President, who submitted a video to show his support for the bid, we are assured of strong local support. The bid also showed great commitment to inviting a large number of associations to join our global association meetings community in Cartagena.”

“It was a close call between the three bidding destinations. We would like to thank the other shortlisted destinations, Rotterdam, The Netherlands and Athens, Greece for their marvellous work and encourage them to bid for a future ICCA Congress.”

The 57th ICCA Congress is taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 11-14 November 2018. This year’s event is the biggest edition of any ICCA Congress held outside Europe, with 1,156 attendees from 79 countries in attendance.
