The Energy Cities Alliance (ECA), a consortium of convention bureaus and convention centres, announced Lausanne, Switzerland joins the partnership.  The announcement was made after a board meeting in Abu Dhabi, alongside the record-breaking 57th ICCA Congress, taking place from 11-14 November 2018 in Dubai.

The Alliance, now in its 11th year, is comprised of Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), Aberdeen (Scotland), Calgary (Canada) and Stavanger (Norway), with these cities all possessing strong energy sectors that foster sustainability and innovation towards the growth of a wide range of other industry sectors, including medicine, science, culture and technology. The alliance of ICCA members was founded at the 2007 ICCA Congress in Thailand.

Lindsay Fraser, Chair of the Energy Cities Alliance said that they are delighted to be expanding our membership with such a relevant and important research and scientific hub. The addition of Lausanne will add greater value to the existing members and their stakeholders, given Lausanne’s track record of hosting high profile conferences, she added.

Julianne Jammers, Managing Director of the award-winning SwissTech Convention Centre said that they are proud to join the Energy Cities Alliance as a knowledge and research partner. The SwissTech is located on the campus of the globally ranked technical university, the EPFL, and they believe they will bring incremental value and contribute to the success of the alliance in identifying and securing relevant business and association events for our cities, she added.

The addition of Lausanne is in line with ECA’s approach to working across the full spectrum of the energy industry, and will bring energy-related events to the individual destinations. The increasing need for sustainable energy solutions in the future is a key consideration for the Alliance.

ECA also announced that Meetings and Conventions Calgary is taking over the city’s membership from the Calgary Telus Convention Centre.
