Last week, British Airways announced a new route from Heathrow to Ljubljana in Slovenia in summer 2019. From the 15th of July until the 2nd of September, the flights will regularly run every Monday and every Friday, says Slovenian Convention Bureau on its website.
Operated by British Airways with 180-seats Airbus 320, the flights will directly compete with easyJet and Wizzair which will carry out up to 17 weekly flights to London’s Luton, Stansted and Gatwick airports during the summer season.
Sean Doyle, BA Director of Network and Alliances, said in the announcement: »We are gearing up an exciting summer next year as we add more routes to our extensive network. We are always developing our leisure offering and are committed to giving our customers even more choice of destinations at competitively low prices.«
The Ljubljana Airport (operated by Fraport Slovenija) notes on its website that the airline might consider season extension and frequency increase in the future, in case bookings will prove that. Zmago Skobir, managing director of Fraport Slovenija welcomed the announcement of new flights with the following words: »The connection with London Heathrow Airport is of great added value, as Heathrow is one of the world’s most important hubs, connected to all world destinations.«
