Catch a fish in the middle of a frozen lake!

Korea’s most popular ice fishing festival, Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival is coming up soon, and it invites you to catch a fish through an opening on 40cm-thick frozen body of water.

Gangwon-do is also well known for its pristine environment. Hwacheon Stream leisurely flows through the Hwacheon area and is famous for its first-grade clean water and is filled with Sancheoneo (Mount Trout) that lives only in very clean and uncontaminated water. When a cold spell comes, Hwacheoncheon Stream is frozen, and ice becomes 40cm thick. Every year, tens of thousands of people flock the county to break ice and catch fish. You can also grill and eat the fish you caught.
This year’s festival is set to start January 5, 2019, and run until January 27. It will offer fishing area exclusive to international visitors, and a sancheoneo cooking site as well as ice sculpture exhibit. It will be exhibiting not only famous pieces of architecture in the world but also a giant Korean flag and ice hotel, such as Gwanghwamun Gate, St Peter’s Cathedral, Abu Simbel, Golden Temple, and Royal Pavilion. These ice sculptures with LED lighting will light up the night sky of Hwacheon during the festival.

Every year from January to May, a strawberry festival is held all over Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi-do, where many people come to enjoy strawberry picking with the experience of farming villages. Jeonghyeon Strawberry Farm is an eco-friendly strawberry farm with special facilities for strawberry picking experience. Once you arrive at the farm, you will learn how to pick strawberries. Then, you can go into the strawberry farm and begin picking strawberries. You can enjoy as many strawberries as can pick inside the farm. And fresh picked strawberries can be packed up to 500 grams per person in plastic containers provided. In addition, you can make a cake with your own strawberries in the experience area next to the strawberry field.
