• New “Hafen 1” event hall on the north bank of the Volkswagen harbour basin
• New building lays the groundwork for Autostadt corporate event business
• “Hafen 1” will serve as the main location for large-scale Volkswagen/Autostadt events for
employees and guests as well as a new primary venue for the Movimentos Festival

On behalf of the Volkswagen Group, the Autostadt in Wolfsburg is building a new event hall on the north bank of the harbour basin. Construction work for “Hafen 1” started in October 2018 and will be completed in summer 2019. Featuring a flexible interior concept for up to 1,400 guests, “Hafen 1” will be used for vehicle presentations, staff functions and major events organized by Volkswagen and the Autostadt. With the construction of Hafen 1, the Autostadt is laying the groundwork for its corporate event business. The new hall will also serve as the new primary venue for the Movimentos Festival.

Gunnar Kilian, Chief Human Resources Officer for the Volkswagen Group and Chairman of the Autostadt Supervisory Board: “Volkswagen assigned responsibility for building and operating Hafen 1 to the Autostadt based on its proven expertise as a communications platform. The new construction of this modern event hall is a clear investment in the future of Volkswagen, the Autostadt and the city of Wolfsburg.”

Bernd Osterloh, Chairman of the Volkswagen Works Council and Member of the Autostadt Supervisory Board: “With Hafen 1, the Autostadt is building another prestigious event venue at Volkswagen headquarters that fits perfectly into Wolfsburg’s modern cityscape. It also gives our colleagues a much needed new space for conferences and other events. This what I call active location development.”

Mayor of Wolfsburg Klaus Mohrs adds: “Movimentos will soon have a permanent home. This is something that will make fans from the Wolfsburg area and beyond happy. The festival is firmly established here and appeals to audiences far beyond the city limits. Volkswagen’s investment in the new hall is further proof of the company’s solid footing at its headquarters site.”

With 5,300 square metres of floor space on three levels and a fantastic view of the harbour basin, Hafen 1 is ideal for major events. The modern building is clearly visible from the city’s railway station and blends perfectly into the modern architecture of the Autostadt and The Ritz-Carlton, Wolfsburg. In the future, it will link these elements with the industrial backdrop of the Volkswagen factory and power plant. A large terrace extending out to the water’s edge offers a place for guests to relax. The new building interior features pure aesthetics, concrete, steel surfaces and glass elements. Beginning in 2019, Hafen 1 will serve as the new primary venue for the Movimentos dance festival, which according to current plans, will take place later in the year.

I would like to thank the Volkswagen Group Chairman and our Supervisory Board for enabling us to actively shape an important part of our future with Hafen 1.”
