Interspeech is the world‘s largest and most comprehensive conference on the science and technology of spoken language processing. The conference features world-class speakers, tutorials, oral and poster sessions, challenges, exhibitions and satellite events, and will gather around 2000 participants from all over the world.
Why Graz?
- Graz lies at the unique crossroads in the heart of Europe where the large Romance, Slavonic, and Germanic language families meet. In a globalized world, the regional varieties of pluricentric languages are becoming ever more important to shape our linguistic identities.
- Speech and Language are active research topics of all four universities in Graz. Through special sessions, we will explore crossroads of Speech and Language with science and technology, with the humanities and language teaching, with medical diagnosis and therapy, and with singing and artistic performance.
- Speech and Language by themselves span a wide range of representation layers in the ‘stacks’ of human-human, or human-machine communication, extending from the bits of the acoustic waveform to pragmatics at discourse level. We will put special emphasis on the deep interaction among and across these representation layers by soliciting invited talks around these issues.
The Organizing Committee will work to facilitate the organization of such satellite workshops, to stimulate discussion in research areas related to speech and language, at locations in Europe, and around the same time as INTERSPEECH 2019. They are particularly looking forward to proposals from neighbouring countries.
As possible sites for your satellite events may we propose the following cities within easy reach from the conference location (either by train, bus, or rental car):
