As the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre), Malaysia’s premier purpose-built facility, gears up to open its expansion in July the venue is proud of its contribution to Malaysia jumping one place to ninth in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region according to the latest ICCA (International Convention & Conference Association) Country and City Rankings 2018.
Malaysia held 134 meetings in 2018
Malaysia held 134 meetings in 2018 which moved the country up four-places to 33rd position in the overall ICCA rankings. The report also saw Kuala Lumpur climb to 34th for international meetings – up four spots on the previous year and retain its 10th position in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region.
Of the 22 meetings held at the Centre last year, seven were medical association meetings and the strong performance from this sector looks set to continue as the venue has eight medical meetings confirmed in 2019, which are expected to attract more than 6,300 participants.
Since opening, the Centre has hosted 15,000 events – attracting almost 25 million participants and delivering RM8.3 billion in economic impact to Malaysia – and with 3 new bid wins, including International Congress on Infectious Diseases (ICID) 2020, Ottawa Conference on the Assessment of Competence in Medicine and the Healthcare Professions 2020, the Centre remains the ‘venue of choice’ for the medical industry.
The expansion will add an additional 11,000 sqm of flexible and multi-purpose space for the Centre’s clients to grow their events and enable the venue to accommodate more events simultaneously.
Attendees at IMEX (Worldwide Exhibition for Incentive Travel, Meetings & Events) Frankfurt 2019 are welcome to visit Booth B200 to learn more about the fantastic business event opportunities available in Malaysia and why the Centre is the perfect business events partner.
