OPEN AIR MOVIES

In the past years Bratislava successfully developed a summer trend of open air cinemas that offer an authentic experience, and is getting more and more popular among the locals as well as among the tourists. There are several locations in Bratislava where you can watch a movie out on the open, seating under the summer night sky, enjoying the summer evening breeze while sipping a refreshing cocktail and tasting some awesome street food. Here are some ideas:

MAGIO BEACH

Bratislava has an actual sandy beach only 5 minutes from the old city center, and with an amazing view over the famous UFO tower and the Bratislava castle. At Tyrsovo nabrezie you can chill out on the hot sand in a cozy lounger seating by the Danube, having a cocktail and watching a movie under the stars.

KUCHAJDA LAKE

Every Wednesday and Saturdayyou can catch a movie at the Kuchajda Lake, near the Polus City Center. The concept behind this cinematographic project is very unique – a week before the screening date three movie titles are given to choose from on an online voting. So the title that receives the most votes gets to be played. The entry is free, and for your comfort, just bring a blanket to be more comfortable.

RUŽINOV

Amphitheater near the lake of Štrkovec is a complex with year-round operation. You will find here the largest playground in Bratislava, during the summer months beach volleyball court and in winter mobile ice rink, and during summer months you can catch a movie each Tuesday at 9pm.

RAČA

The leisure complex with an amphitheater in Knižková valley in Rača has undergone extensive reconstruction and since June 2016 it has been used again for cultural, social and sports activities. A big novelty during the holidays is the opening of an open-air cinema.

CAFFE BERLINKA

The Slovak National Gallery and Film Europe SK Media Company present at the Café Berlinka SNG genre diverse films from quality European directors, many with awards or nominations from major film festivals. Screenings takes place every Wednesday from 3 July to 28 August at 20.30.

FREE OPEN AIR CONCERTS

A summer evening gets even better when accompanied with the sounds of music. Summer breeze, friends, food, drinks and a thought getaway that is only possible in the endless summer nights. Bratislava offers a rich program of free music concerts that fill up the streets, parks and squares of this Slovak capital.

Each Tuesday after 6pm a Swing Dancing night is organized in the Janko Kral city park. In the romantic atmosphere of the Botanic Garden attractive concerts of chamber music are organized. Dive into the melodies of jazz, chanson and world music in piano and guitar. Near the St. Martin’s cathedral, near the popular traditional concerts San Marten Bar & Restaurant, are held. Come for a drink, a meal and a dose of live music.

You can still catch the last days (until August 4) of the Summer Shakespeare Festival, the oldest and greatest open-air festival theatre show in Europe. Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night or What you will, Othello and the Comedy of Errors are the picks of this years festival that are not to be missed.
