A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CHATEAU

The Pezinok castle was built during the 13thand 14thcentury by Counts from Svätý Jur and Pezinok. Originally built in Gothic style, the castle had different owners during history – as known baron Krušič, count Illesházy, Pálffy family were among them. Count Pálffy created a beautiful ‘English style garden’ park inside the castle in 1884, that holds some rare trees and a fishing pond with water fowl. In 1875 a lightning extensively damaged the northern part of the castle, and was replaced with a new building. In 1936 the castle was sold to Slovak Vintner Association by the town of Pezinok. This originally medieval residence fortified by moats transformed from gothic to romantic (during the time of Pálffy family) and to the final most modern style, that was made during World War II by the Slovak Vinicultural Cooperative. Today the renewed chateau established by Štefan of the Šimák generation boasts a beautiful winery, a charming hotel and a precious glass exhibition.
