Exactly 10 years ago, the Utrecht Convention Bureau (UCB) was founded as an initiative of the municipality of Utrecht, in collaboration with, among others, the province of Utrecht. The aim of the UCB is to promote the Utrecht Region as an (inter)national conference destination. Operating as part of Utrecht Marketing, the UCB has contributed to an economic impact of more than 112 million euros in the Utrecht Region over the past 10 years.
Conferences play a crucial role in the international exchange of knowledge and add extra dynamism to a lively and smart city. By acquiring and supporting international scientific conferences, the UCB, together with the Utrecht Science Park and its renowned knowledge institutions, contributes to the image of a healthy and green city and region.
More than just economic impact
The economic value of multi-day international conferences is substantial. This value concerns expenditure on travel and accommodation costs in the city and region. In recent years, Utrecht has become an increasingly attractive destination for conferences. This is reflected in the increase of the economic value of €5.5 million in 2011 to almost €28 million in 2019.
