SARAJEVO’S MOST PROMINENT FORMER CINEMA REVITALISED
Ten years after its last projection, the Imperial Cinema Sarajevo has been revitalised as Sarajevo’s new hotspot. The goal of the revival of the former Imperial Cinema is to present Sarajevo as a cultural and meeting place. By organising educational and cultural events, the venue’s goal is to showcase the city’s hospitality and unity.
The cinema was established in 1913 and was first named Romanija Cinema. Soon the venue became well-known among the locals and whilst hosting several film premieres, Imperial Cinema also hosted various cultural events. Located on the busiest street in Sarajevo, the venue boasted the first lift in all of Sarajevo. In its new look, the venue will be the host of concerts, stand-up comedies, film projections and events. Together with the story of the craft brewery behind the project, the old cinema will once again shape the cultural and social scene of Sarajevo.
The Brew Co. is a craft brewery, who has decided to make something original and unusual and merge it with their brew heritage. The name of the project, namely of the old Imperial Cinema is BIS – Brew Imperial Society. The story started as a symbol of the revival of the former cinema, writing a new chapter in its rich history.
