The Castle which opens many doors

In the east of Vienna in the middle of the charming landscape of the Danube wetlands lies Schloss Eckartsau, whose history is closely connected with the happy and fateful days of the house of Habsburg. Impressed by the rich wildlife stocks of the hunting grounds around Eckartsau, Emperor Franz I, husband of Maria Theresa, acquired the castle and estate in the 18th century. In the ornate ballroom with its magnificent ceiling frescos, the ruling couple invited hunting guests to festive dinners and glittering balls.

To this day, the baroque staterooms still exude a sense of the splendour and of the joy of this bygone era. Visitors can let their mind wander and imagine the carefree life the nobility led in this man-made paradise. All of this is so very near to the metropolitan areas of Vienna and Bratislava and in close harmony between nature and civilization. The magnificent rooms of Schloss Eckartsau serve the same purpose today for which they were created in the baroque period – as impressive settings for festive events. One of the best ways to experience the castle are concerts, public festivals and events.
