MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART IN CARINTHIA

The Carinthian Museum of Modern Art provides an up-to-date platform for national and international exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, with 14 exhibition rooms of the highest international standard, over an area of some 1.000m². In addition, the “Burgkapelle” (former chapel), with baroque frescoes by Josef Ferdinand Fromiller, is reserved for the use of young artists, and the arcade on the upper floor of the inner courtyard has a permanent display of sculptures from the collection.

The focal point is the Museum’s own collection from the Province of Carinthia, which includes distinguished protagonists of the 20th and 21st centuries, such as Hans Bischoffshausen, Kiki Kogelnik, Maria Lassnig, Hermann Nitsch, Hans Staudacher and, representing the younger generation, for example Heimo Zobernig and Hans Schabus.
