Anyone planning an event in Vienna in 2021 and 2022 will have government protection. Under the approved EUR 300 million protective shield, the Austrian government will cover financial damage resulting from events being cancelled or restricted due to COVID-19.

The Austrian guarantee gives event planners much-needed planning security. For Vienna’s meeting industry, this means that organizers who intend to hold an event in Vienna are covered and can plan their events even in these uncertain times. The protective shield is the key to offering event organizers a reasonable amount of flexibility despite the numerous pandemic-related uncertainties.

The submission of applications should be possible during the week of January 18-24, 2021 via the Austrian Hotel and Tourism Bank (ÖHT). The first eligible event date is February 1, 2021. Applications can be submitted through June 15, 2021. They will be processed by the Austrian Hotel and Tourism Bank (ÖHT).

Protective shield also covers international organizers

Organizers from outside Austria can also apply for a grant. The prerequisite is that the event is held in Austria. The protective shield applies if an event is cancelled or restricted for reasons objectively related to COVID-19. An event is considered restricted if more than 30% of the participants cannot take part in the event due to COVID-19.
