FORMER SALT STOREHOUSE TURNED INTO A HOTSPOT FOR EVENTS
Taverna is a former salt storehouse of Saint Mark, which is located immediately next to the old port of Koper and has been transformed into a one-of-a-kind special venue. According to written sources, former inhabitants started salt-making at the beginning of the 12th century. Since salt was an important raw material for the town’s economy, they also needed a main storehouse for the salt. After the Koper salt evaporation ponds were closed in 1912, the salt storehouse became obsolete, and the building started being used for other purposes. The external façade boasts a high-quality stone water basin and a Venetian lion that now proudly looks upon countless attendees that come for remarkable events.
A few years back, the tavern underwent a thorough renovation. Today, Taverna is a multi-purpose event facility hosting various concerts, shows, dancing, singing and culinary events throughout the year. The spacious event space can host up to 800 people and is among the most sought-after venues during the summer.
