On June 30 2021, Ljubljana’s Council of Europe Park played host to the first informal gathering of Slovenian Congress Ambassadors of this year. The event was the first in-person gathering following the easing of epidemiological restrictions. It was organised in cooperation with the Slovenian Tourist Board and partners of the project.

Regardless of all the challenges faced in the past year and a half, the Slovenian Convention Bureau is successfully continuing its activities as part of the Slovenian Ambassador Programme project initiated in 2019. The project is led by the Slovenian Convention Bureau and supported by the Slovenian Tourist Board. Furthermore, close cooperation with Ljubljana Tourism’s Ljubljana Convention Bureau and thirteen partners of the project helped make the project a reality. The project’s long-term commitment and purpose are to continuously improve in the future and attract numerous scientists, doctors, professors, experts, economists, athletes and other individuals who are active in their respective fields and are members of international associations. Today, the project proudly comprises 50 Slovenian Congress Ambassadors who help strengthen Slovenia’s position as a centre of intellectual capital, sports and innovation with their active involvement in the international scientific, business and sports society.

The first informal gathering of this year in a relaxed atmosphere

As part of the event, the Director of the Slovenian Convention Bureau, Miha Kovačič, presented the current state of the meetings and congress industry and the activities of the Slovenian Congress Ambassador Programme.

The participants had the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with colleagues from academic and scientific circles and members of various esteemed institutions. Moreover, they could talk to partners of the project involved in different segments of the congress industry. The purpose of the gathering was to strengthen partnerships and search for new solutions for organising events in the upcoming years.

As the recipients of the honourable accolades could not meet in person in the past year, all Slovenian Congress Ambassadors of 2020 were invited on stage. Select guests greeted and applauded them for all their past achievements. They congratulated them on bringing and hosting several international scientific, expert and other events in Slovenia in the past years.

Cankarjev dom can be thanked for hosting the pleasant event. The Council of Europe Park, where the event took place, was decorated by Hiša Vizij. Vivo Catering took care of the cuisine and presented authentic Slovenian gastronomy, which attendees could taste while socialising in a relaxed atmosphere. Saxophonists from the University of Ljubljana’s Academy of Music ensured participants enjoyed a unique cultural experience.

“The recipe for a successfully executed event is broad experience, adequate infrastructure and competent and seasoned service providers.”

One of the main goals of the Slovenian Ambassador Programme is to improve Slovenia’s competitiveness in terms of the internationalisation of science and economy, as well as ensure an effective structure to reach the aforementioned objective.

“The project promotes Slovenia as a destination for international scientific, expert and business events. Its goal is to attract and host even more events. The recipe for a successfully executed event is broad experience, adequate infrastructure and competent and seasoned service providers, which can all be found in Slovenia. The Slovenian Ambassador Programme is a long-distance run!” said Miha Kovačič, the Director of the Slovenian Convention Bureau.
