On 20 August, 450 musicians will celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the Estonian Restoration of Independence with a concert at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds. The concert will last more than five hours. Attendees will have a rare opportunity to witness a historic moment and experience a unique event dedicated to this important day.

On the late evening of 20 August 30 years ago, when the deputies in Toompea adopted the decision of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Estonia on the national independence of Estonia, the Tallinn TV Tower was still surrounded by the armoured vehicles of the Pskov airborne forces. Although it took another three years for the final withdrawal of foreign troops from Estonia, the Soviet occupation, which had lasted for almost 50 years, ended that evening.

Estonian achieved this … by singing. The songs, which were about freedom and the homeland, were initially sung in small groups of friends, but became more and more popular. The messages were sometimes hidden, but they always got them. they sang these songs wholeheartedly. This led to the patriotic songs of Alo Mattiisen and night song festivals. It is how the bloodless Singing Revolution became possible.
