Radical redevelopment of the building currently home to Hilton Athens, through a 130 million EUR investment

The building complex currently home to Hilton Athens, is undergoing a complete transformation for the development of a new multidimensional destination that will combine multiple uses. This is a strategic investment by Ionian Hotel Enterprises (IHE), which aims to contribute further to establishing Athens among the top choices in Europe to travel or live.

The new destination introduces a mixed development model which will feature a luxury hotel along with residences, a lifestyle members’ club, multiple culinary and entertainment venues, curated shopping, thus creating an ecosystem of unique experiences.

The new model is expected to add significant value to Athens’ tourism landscape and support the local economy while contributing to the upgrade of the surrounding area.

The development of the new destination requires the radical reconstruction of the existing building in order to accommodate the new uses and to apply best sustainable practices according to the international LEED Gold certification. During the construction works, up to 800 people are expected to be employed, while at the full operation of the new destination, more than 600 jobs will be created.

Τhe reconstruction will consist of:

– the development of a new luxury hotel under the Conrad brand, with 280 rooms and suites
– the development of 50 luxury residences under the Hilton brands, Conrad Residences and Waldorf Astoria Residences
– the complete redevelopment of the top floor, to house new gastronomy and entertainment venues
– an extension by the pool, which was also part of the initial architectural design of the 60s
– the development of curated retail spaces, entertainment and wellness areas, and a lifestyle members’ club in spaces of 5,500sq.m.

This will be a large-scale construction project which will preserve and further enhance the building’s architectural legacy and the timeless façades crafted by Yannis Moralis. The construction works are ongoing since the end of 2020 across different hotel sections which closed down and the entire reconstruction is expected to be completed in 2024.

Operations will cease on January 31st

Due to the extensive volume of works, and in order to ensure the safety of associates and guests, it is not possible for the hotel to operate at the same time, therefore it will cease operations on January 31, 2022.

Considering the above, and taking into account multiple socioeconomic criteria, IHE is offering to its associates a specially designed voluntary exit plan, which will conclude by end of January 2022. In addition, those associates who wish to, will have the opportunity to apply and be reviewed for job openings in other tourism activities of the Group, such as the new hotel in Costa Navarino, as well as the hotel and other businesses that will operate in the new destination in Athens towards the end of 2024.
