During the winter break, Kempinski Palace Portorož has begun extensive renovation. MK Group, the owner of the iconic hotel, will invest 6.5 million EUR in the iconic hotel’s refurbishment over the upcoming two years.

The initial investment of 3.5 million EUR aims at the holistic renovation of the modern part of the hotel, where work has already begun and is expected to conclude in late spring. All 78 rooms and suites in the modern part of the hotel will be completely redesigned.

The renovation will, above all, focus on giving the hotel a minimalist modern look intertwined with the spirit of the destination. The Ljubljana-based POKE Design studio will be in charge of designing the overall image. Although the renovation will encompass the entire premises, its focus will also be on the rapidly evolving world of IT. That includes various system changes, software and hardware updates, Wi-Fi network development and adapting the conference centre to the needs of meeting planners. The spa, fitness and wellness centre will also be expanded and reinvigorated. The hotel’s bars, restaurants, and breakfast room will thus feature brand new furniture. In addition, all 182 hotel rooms will offer a hitherto unseen sleeping experience: premium mattresses, pillows and blankets will be replaced in all rooms for the comfort of hotel guests.

Kai Behrens

General Manager of the hotel

Kai Behrens, General Manager of the hotel, commented: “The refurbishment will focus on areas where we have received remarks from guests in the past. Our renovation plan has been devised to further improve the satisfaction of guests and the quality of the hotel, consequently creating higher revenue for the hotel.” In the last few years, Kempinski Palace Portorose was named the Best Hotel in Slovenia by independent awards, and recently received the Best Large Meetings Hotel award in the country: “We will not rest on our laurels and achievements. We have never hidden our aspiration to be the best not only in Slovenia but in the wider region, and the renovation of the hotel will allow us to do so. We are lucky that our management company sees the same potential for further growth and expansion of the hotel business as we do,” concludes Behrens.

In the upcoming two years, MK Group will invest an additional 3 million euros in the renovation of the Palace part of the hotel and other areas not included in this year’s renovation phase.
