The symmetrical building was built in the German neo-Renaissance style by the Member’s Gun Club of Budapest in 1885. Besides providing space for shooting, the original building served as a ballroom, a restaurant and a casino. It was a famous meeting place for the aristocracy of Budapest for example Count Gyula Andrássy hosted his liberal salon on Friday nights here. Moreover, on one special occasion, Queen Elizabeth herself—known as Sisi—opened the dance in the ballroom.
