The second series of Penang Career Expo “Ekspo Jom Cari Kerja” kicked off again on the 16th of April 2022 at the Ixora Hotel on the mainland from 10 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Yeoh Soon Hin, Penang State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy, stated that Penang must re-engineer and recalibrate its strategy to address the rising shortcomings and challenges as Malaysia ushers in economic revival as borders reopen.

“The exhibitors provided encouraging feedback, stating that the Penang Career Expo is a timely initiative as they are able to recruit new talents and overcome insufficient manpower,” he said.

He added that the two years of Covid-19 contingency planning have taught a valuable lesson which is to think, prepare, and act ahead and always keep industry sustainability and business continuity in mind in all of the decision-making processes.

The purpose of the expo is to provide a platform for job seekers and talent scouts to meet and reconnect to generate extra job prospects in the tourism industry. Penang Career Expo 2022 is designed to address the challenges of career search in this challenging era from the perspectives of both job seekers and potential employers.

Creating an open recruitment platform

Exhibitors encompass hotels, travel agencies, attractions, and a variety of other tourism-related businesses, as the expo aims to create an open recruitment platform for industry participants to explore, appraise, and communicate with an existing and emerging talent for the future hiring and career development.

Penang is also the very first state to conduct a tourism and hospitality career expo and is now looking to collaborate with educational institutions and universities to raise awareness among the youths on employment opportunities in the state, especially in the tourism and hospitality industry.
