More than 1,500 visitors expected
The Slovene National Theatre Maribor is the premier cultural institution in Maribor and the pride of its inhabitants. Their performances, theatre, ballet or opera, are visited not only by locals but also culture lovers from other parts of Slovenia and neighbouring countries.
A traditional concert is a gift from the SNG Maribor to the citizens and all opera and classical music lovers to enjoy the most beautiful opera arias and experience an unforgettable romantic night at the magnificent conclusion of the opera season. At its seventh edition, organisers are expecting more than 1,500 visitors.
Opera night will be organised on Saturday, May 27, at 20.30 at the Main Square in Maribor. The Symphony Orchestra of the Slovene National Theatre Maribor, soloists and choir of the Maribor Opera will be conducted by Simon Krečič, the art director of the Maribor Opera.
One of the most culturally developed regional destinations
“This year’s programme comprises different musical styles with the excerpts from greatest opera hits by Puccini, Verdi, Ponchiellija, Dvořáka, Offenbach, Delibes and others from the actual and previous seasons. Some of them are already an announcement of the next season,” described the programme conductor Simon Krečič.
Mitja Špes, president of the Ezl Ek Festival, also co-organising Opera Night, explained: “We are extremely glad that, this year, we are organising the event without any restrictions. It is technically a very demanding project, involving a big team, who are enthusiastic to bring an unforgettable story to the audience.” The venue will ensure 1,500 seats for attendees.
Maribor marks the 10th anniversary of the »European Capital of Culture« title in 2022. The project was an important milestone for the city, enabling the cultural offer to prosper. After ten years, Maribor is recognised as one of the most excellent cultural destinations in the region.
Opera Night is the first pre-event of the traditional Lent Festival celebrating its 30th anniversary. It will be hosted from June 25 to July 2.
