On 20 May 2022, Ljubljana’s Lily Novy Garden played host to the first informal gathering of Slovenian Congress Ambassadors this year. In the morning, ambassadors and project partners could convene and network while experiencing the hidden gems of Portorož. The event was organised in cooperation with the Slovenian Tourist Board, Portorož Tourist Board and project partners.

The Slovenian Ambassador programme currently connects 67 ambassadors, internationally-acclaimed individuals, who co-create Slovenia’s success as a meeting destination by hosting global events in Slovenia. At the helm of the campaign is the Slovenian Convention Bureau, supported by the Slovenian Tourist Board, in cooperation with six destination clubs and project partners. Regardless of the challenges the meetings industry endured during the past two years, all participants were unequivocal in their belief that live gatherings are pivotal for the industry. In addition, the event showcased how events can foster the development of international connections and partnerships.

The purposes of the convening of Slovenian Congress Ambassadors were to seek new solutions in event organising as a response to current trends and deepen connections.

In-person gatherings are crucial, considering they enable authentic connections among ambassadors. Moreover, they facilitate knowledge exchange between colleagues from academic and scientific circles, institutions and partner projects who are active in various sectors of the meetings industry and, not least, deepen cooperation with the Slovenian Convention Bureau. The attendees exchanged trailblazing ideas, trends and propositions regarding potential future congresses and events hosted in Slovenia. The Slovenian Convention Bureau presented its supporting mechanisms for all who wish to organise international events in Slovenia.
