The 29th Velo-city 2022 cycling conference concluded in Ljubljana on Friday, 17 June 2022. The flag of the conference was passed on to the next host, the city of Leipzig.

The world’s largest cycling conference, Velo-city, started on 14 June 2022 at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre with a number of expert meetings and a varied accompanying program, continuing up to Friday, 17 June 2022.

The world’s largest cycling meeting was attended by around 1,300 participants, who listened to seven plenary sessions and over 60 parallel sessions, with about 350 speakers.

Velo-city: political courage for ground-breaking decisions

During a plenary session dubbed Political Courage for Breakthrough Decisions, Mayor Zoran Janković, together with the mayors of Banja Luka, Novi Sad, Sarajevo and Dubrovnik, discussed the challenges of promoting cycling in cities where residents are traditionally focused primarily on car use.

Passing the baton to Leipzig

At the conclusion of the conference, Mayor Zoran Janković thanked the entire team, which prepared the great conference, and invited visitors to keep returning to Ljubljana, for him the most beautiful city in the world and a city where different people live together with mutual respect.

On the occasion, he presented the flag of the Velo-city conference to Deputy Mayor of Leipzig, Thomas Dienberg, where the next conference will take place in May next year. At the end of the conference, the CEO of the European Cyclists’ Federation, Jill Warren, thanked Mayor Zoran Janković and Ljubljana for the great experience and expressed her enthusiasm for Ljubljana.

At the end of the second day of the conference, a mass cycling parade took place on the streets of Ljubljana, facilitating the use of bicycles in everyday transport. According to the organisers, as many as 7,000 cyclists took part, riding on an 11-kilometre-long route.
