Toomas Türk, Head of Future City at the Tallinn Strategic Management Office, said: “This is the second time Tallinn has been highly commended, as in 2020 we shared the top spot with Sofia, the Bulgarian capital, in the same category. “Tallinn has continued to be at the forefront of smart city deployment among European cities, especially thanks to its long-term contribution to innovation projects. A good example is the Innovation Fund, created in partnership with Tehnopol Science and Business Park, which provides companies with a suitable test and development environment for risky and innovative solutions. Tallinn is clearly an innovative city, and it is good to see that our efforts to develop a smart city and create a better urban environment have once again been recognised,” Türk added.
For the fifth time this year, the Future of Emerging Europe Awards 2022 initiative showcases the best of the emerging Europe region: individuals, public and private organisations as well as projects and initiatives. The ranking was compiled by a jury of more than 100 global FDI experts, site selection advisers and location analysts who were independently asked for their views on the 100 cities in emerging Europe with populations above 200,000 inhabitants.
The Future of Emerging Europe Awards ceremony took place on 23 June in Brussels. Emerging Europe launched the awards programme in 2018. It assesses the ability of the region’s 23 national investment promotion agencies to highlight their value proposition and use digital channels to draw potential investors’ attention to business opportunities in key sectors.
