VIENNA – MTLG Destination Update 2022

Vienna is a city that is constantly reinventing itself and evolving – with smart city concepts, new districts and also new meeting locations. Meeting planners can already choose from over 200 impressive and varied venues in the city. This year two interesting locations will be added to the portfolio: “Ariana”, a smart event location in Seestadt Aspern, one of Europe`s biggest urban development projects opened in spring. “Weitsicht Cobenzl”, offering a magnificent view over Vienna and space for up to 2,600 people is scheduled to open in Autumn. But also in terms of events, quite a lot is happening at Meeting Destination Vienna (see top events below).

Meeting Destination Vienna offers countless incentive ideas – from learning how to walz to the creation of graffiti artworks. Or, how about building rafts together? Assembling rafts in teamwork requires a new kind of communication among team members. Together they tinker knot and consult because there are no building instructions. The most exciting moment of the event provides a thrill and an emotional release when the finished raft not only floats, but its team members can paddle on it around the water of the Danube River.

Apart from culinary “classics” like “Sacher Torte”, why not take home a product designed by Wiener Werkstätte artists such as elegant luminaires, beautiful tableware, fine fabrics or high-quality silverware? Koloman Moser and Josef Hoffmann founded the Wiener Werkstätte in 1903 together with the industrialist Fritz Waerndorfer. The designs and products of this era have since become timeless classics that are still found wherever one goes in Vienna because some of the companies that Moser and Hoffmann designed still exist to this day. This year roughly 400 meetings are scheduled to take place in Meeting Destination Vienna, from smaller corporate meetings to big international congresses. Amongst them, two major congresses took place in June, the Congress of the European Hematology Association from 9 to 12 June at the Messe Wien, and the 55th European Human Genetics Conference 2022, from 11 to 14 June at the Austria Center Vienna.

Furthermore, Vienna is looking forward to the physical comeback of the ECR in summer – the radiology congress brought up to 25,000 participants to Vienna before the pandemic – and the 30th anniversary of the UEG Week in October.

The destination is especially proud to welcome important industry events in Vienna this year: The Meetings Space Autumn 2022 from September 22nd to 24th, and PCMA Convening EMEA 2022 just a few days later from September 28th to 30th. With established and internationally recognized and well-known industry formats like these, the destination sends a strong signal for Meeting Destination Vienna.
