COMPARISON WITH THE REGION

The inhabitants of Bela krajina have been changing the diverse Karst landscape into fields, pastures and orchards for centuries. Several indigenous animal and plant species have been preserved, as well as an array of traditional recipes for unique dishes. Bela krajina (white landscape) was named after its many white birch trees, growing by the warmest Slovenian river, the Kolpa. The entire border region received the title of European Destination of Excellence of 2010.
