Reducing the carbon footprint in the metaverse

At this year’s Sharm el-Sheikh Climate Change Conference (COP 27) in Egypt, Slovenia presented itself with a highly innovative solution called MetaCOP27. The solution focuses on the hybrid or virtual organisation of events and presenting companies in the high-tech metaverse platform.

MetaCOP27 is a virtual pavilion that, in the form of a digital presence in a metaverse environment, enables effective presentations of companies and organisations. It allows the mutual interaction of individuals in real-time and creates entrepreneurial communities with a distributed mode of operation. It results from Slovenian know-how and cooperation between the Technology Park Ljubljana and its partner companies, Reeba and Distriverse.

The organisation of events in the metaverse effectively reduces the carbon footprint, which is why the company is particularly proud of the innovation.

In his welcoming speech, the Minister of the Environment and Spatial Planning, Uroš Brežan, congratulated the companies that developed the innovative MetaCOP27 solution for both the digital and the real world for better management of climate crises and better adaptation to climate change. He assured the Slovenian government will continue supporting companies en route to solutions for the faster digital and green transition. These include smart mobility, material efficiency, and advanced digital technologies.

MetaCOP28 to turn heads in Dubai

In order to connect advanced technological solutions and thus further increase the visibility and recognition of Slovenia in its pioneering role in the field of advanced digital technologies, the MetaCOP28 platform will be adapted for the upcoming COP28, held in November 2023 in Dubai. The platform will be organised as part of the conceptual design of future activities at the Slovenian pavilion in Dubai Expo City in Dubai.
