Wanderlust travel magazine has awarded Tallinn second place in the category of Europe’s Most Desirable City.

The second place was awarded to Tallinn thanks to the tourists who visited the city and who were vocal in their opinions on the portal.

According to a representative of Wanderlust, the longest-running travel magazine in the UK, this is a prestigious title that is not easy for European cities to obtain. “It’s a difficult award to win because the competition is very tough,” said Christina Wildman Mullett of Wanderlust. “Winning this coveted award is a testament to how much Estonia continues to resonate with our discerning Wanderlust readers – something we’ve always known!”

Deputy Mayor Joosep Vimm explained that the title is really about constant work. “The whole tourism sector and the city are working strategically to bring in new visitors and offer a memorable experience,” said Vimm.

“The Tallinn Christmas market is set for a makeover this year. There will be more cultural programmes for the whole family. So it’s definitely worthwhile for locals to come and experience this world-famous Christmas market,” added Vimm.

Tourists who visited Tallinn found the Old Town particularly admirable. Tallinn also came second in the category of most desirable Christmas city. For tourists visiting the Estonian capital, the annual Christmas Market has been a major attraction for years, but last year’s Christmas Market was much more appreciated than usual.

It is described that Tallinn’s Old Town is where visitors can have a unique experience. The wooden stalls and cosy medieval ambience of the Christmas market are a hit with tourists. The themed courtyards based on famous fairy tales, numerous concerts and performances have not gone unnoticed.

Wanderlust magazine covers intrepid, cultural and special interest travel. The magazine is published six times a year and encourages active travellers to explore lesser-known countries and regions.

Tallinn Christmas Market will be open from 25 November to 8 January.
