Sales Director for the International Convention Centre Wales (ICC Wales) Danielle Bounds has been named as an Innovator winner in the Smart Women in Meetings Awards for 2023 for her dedication to educating the global events sector on Martyn’s Law (also known as Protect Duty).

The annual Smart Women in Meetings Awards, organised by US media outlet Smart Meetings, recognises the top women in the global meetings sector who continue to open new doors for all with creativity, passion, and drive.

Since the beginning of 2022, Danielle and the team at ICC Wales have worked tirelessly on creating educational resources including its Protect Duty report, delivering informative sessions at industry trade shows and launching its own Martyn’s Law Events Industry Group, which reports its findings directly to UKEVENTS’ Government and Advocacy Working Group.

Commenting on her award win Danielle Bounds, Sales Director, ICC Wales said: “To be recognised by such a prestigious industry title is such an honour, especially for a cause that I am so passionate about. I am looking forward to celebrating with the other award winners in August and learning more about their fantastic work.”

Ian Edwards, CEO, ICC Wales said: “We are so proud of Danielle, who has been the driving force behind our work and industry education on Martyn’s Law. In recent months we have secured awards as a business for this work, and we are delighted that Danielle has been recognised for her dedication and passion in delivering resources towards creating a safer events sector in the UK.”

Martyn’s Law is a direct result of campaigning by Figen Murray OBE, the mother of Martyn Hett who was killed in the Manchester Arena terrorist attack in 2017.

The winners of the Smart Women in Meetings Awards will be celebrated at a gala dinner at the Smart Woman Summit in New York this August.
