111,000 delegates will gather at Fira de Barcelona

Barcelona renews its status as the capital of medical and pharmaceutical congresses through Fira de Barcelona, with the hosting of 20 health-related events that will draw over 111,000 congress attendees to the CCIB and the Gran Via and Montjuïc venues. In the coming days, the city will hold events organised by ESMO (European Society for Medical Oncology), ENCALS (European Network for the Cure of ALS), and the World Parkinson’s Congress. In the autumn, it will resume a busy calendar that includes CPHI, the world’s largest event for the pharmaceutical industry.


Next Wednesday, 28 June, the World Congress on Gastrointestinal Cancer will start at the Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB), the leading event in its field with more than 3,000 specialists in gastroenterology, oncology, pathology and hepatology, doctors and surgeons, as well as clinical researchers from all over the world to share the latest advances and pioneering studies in the treatment of patients with this cancer.

A week later, the International Convention Centre and the city will welcome more than 4,000 participants to the World Parkinson’s Congress from 4-7 July. The profile of visitors ranges from professionals in research, neurology and general medicine, rehabilitation, nursing and social workers, to people with Parkinson’s, caregivers and family members.
The event includes an interdisciplinary forum to discuss the latest medical advances in the fight against this neurodegenerative disease, as well as new developments in education and training, and models for improving the quality of life of those who suffer from it.

The ENCALS Congress Barcelona will take place from 11 to 14 July and will bring together more than a thousand professionals specialising in ALS (Amyotrophic Multiple Sclerosis). Organised by the European network of centres specialising in ALS, the event has scheduled around twenty sessions and debates.

World Medical congresses

The congress calendar will keep up the momentum after the summer, with a total of ten events scheduled from September to the end of the year. The first of these will focus on emergency medicine and will gather 2,500 specialists at EUSEM 2023. The symposium includes scientific sessions, practical training workshops and two competitions, including the Euro SimCup, in which teams of professionals will face different simulated scenarios ranging from plane crashes to earthquakes and floods.

September will also see the National Oncology Congress (19-22 September – Montjuïc Venues), the ECVIM-CA Veterinary Congress (21-23 September – CCIB), and the European Congress of Neurosurgery (24-28 September – Montjuïc Venues).

The calendar of events will continue in October with the National Podiatry Congress (6-7 October – Montjuïc Venues), the ECNP Congress which will gather 4,000 professionals from the world of neuropsychopharmacology to address brain disorders (7-10 October – CCIB) and the 64th Congress of the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition (18-20 October – CCIB).

The world’s largest event for the pharmaceutical industry returns in October

One of the main events will be the CPHI, the world’s largest event for the pharmaceutical industry, which returns to Barcelona between 24 and 26 October and will bring together 40,000 congress participants and 1,800 exhibitors who will occupy almost the entire Gran Via venue.

The year of medical congresses will close with the Clinical Trials Europe, a conference focusing on clinical trials to be held at the CCIB from 29 to 30 November, and the European Headache Congress, which will also gather more than a thousand headache specialists at the CCIB from 6 to 9 December.

This will bring to a close 2023, which began with events such as the ESMO (European Society for Medical Oncology) Congress on Gynaecological Cancer in February and continued with the INFARMA European Congress of the Pharmacy Office and the Medicine and parapharmacy Show, which brought together 34,000 professionals; the EHRA conference, the EHRA Conference and the European Conference on Gynecological Cancer, which brought together more than 1,000 professionals. 000 professionals, the EHRA conference of the European Society of Cardiology; the World Hospital at Home Congress on the field of home care; the Osteology Symposium organised by the Osteology Foundation; the World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases; and the annual congress of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging EACVI 2023.
