The upcoming Conventa Best Event Award 2023 will take place in August. In anticipation of the event, Kongres Magazine interviewed respected jury members who provided valuable advice on how to secure the prestigious award. José G. Aguarod sheds light on the advantages that agencies can gain by receiving a professional award.  

Q1: What do you look for when you evaluate the best events?

I look for coherence and a spark of creativity. Coherence between the client’s objective and the solution proposed to him/her by the agency, and a spark brought by a genuine solution, an innovative approach or a human element that make the event different.

Q2: What advice would you give to agencies and brands thinking about what event to put forward for Conventa Best Event Award?

I would present an event which is innovative in its conception or delivery, efficient in its use of resources and -if possible- easy to explain to third parties.

Q3: What tips would you give to agencies and brands putting together case studies for their events?

My piece of advice would be that they are very “to the point” in the information they supply, combined with the best possible video support. Avoid generic and non-credible statements when defining the event and try that the information supplied be relevant to those judging.

Q4: What kind of results and ROI metrics impress you in a case study, and which ones disappoint?

This is a very difficult question for me as there are so many possible impressive results… Maybe I will answer to you by giving a couple of tips on very common results presented in many case studies: for one, many agencies use “number of impacts” as a measure of the event’s success, which by itself, to me, is not very reliable information, as it is very hard for a juror to evaluate its real value. Another difficult data point is the budget: it is an interesting data point and gives context to the juror but raises many questions as well and some jurors penalize large budgets where others believe the contrary, for instance.
