Conventa Best Event Award 2023 is happening this August. In the meantime,  Kongres Magazine talked to esteemed jury members, who shared their tips for winning the coveted award. Kim Myrhe advises putting the focus on the experience of the attendees. 

Q1: What do you look for when you evaluate the best events?

Attendee experience. Was the experience relevant, engaging, participatory, useful, inspirational, fun, innovative, and memorable? Did the event experience reflect the attendee profile, needs, preferences, and social concerns like community, diversity, and sustainability? Did the event experience enhance the attendee’s knowledge and behaviour? How did your understanding of your audience encourage the use of new event formats, technologies, and experiences?

Q2: What advice would you give to agencies and brands thinking about what event to put forward for Conventa Best Event Award?

Having been in the events business for a number of years I can tell you – you know it when your event rocked. Creating a really outstanding event experience requires vision, passion, commitment, and a lot of hard work. Be proud. Share your experience. The event industry needs inspiration.

Q3: What tips would you give to agencies and brands putting together case studies for their events?

Again, focus on the attendee experience. Craft your case studies as stories. When telling stories, you don’t just describe what happened, you tell us how the experience felt, how the participants were affected, how they reacted and how they are different after attending the event.

Q4: What kind of results and ROI metrics impress you in a case study, and which ones disappoint?

I always like to say that the best event design starts with why.  Why are we planning this event? Who do we need to attend and what experience do we need to create in order to achieve our desired outcomes? Having real clarity around objectives and how outcomes will be measured is the first step to event success.

The most commonly communicated results like the number of attendees and sponsorship/exhibitor revenues are less interesting to me, I’d rather know who attended and how they benefited from sponsors/exhibitors that were there.
