Catalyst Slovakia’s team-building programmes have long captivated companies seeking unique team experiences as they blend the best local offer and activities. Lubo Tomko, head of Catalyst Slovakia, a company organising memorable team-building programmes, discussed the positive impacts of team-building programmes for organisations and companies.

Catalyst Slovakia offers several team-building programmes that cater to several focus groups. Their curated programmes help companies reskill, upskill, and engage their team members.

Q1: Which are the most popular team-building programmes among your clients?

The most popular are :

Orchestrate! Team Building Activity – Catalyst Slovakia
Quickfire Team Building Activity – Catalyst Slovakia
Synergyk Team Building Activity – Catalyst Slovakia
Knowing Me Knowing You Team Building Activity Catalyst Slovakia
Global Innovation Game Team Building Activity – Catalyst Slovakia

All these programs are also suitable to engage participants at conferences.

Q2: What is important when a company decides on a team-building programme? Do you define the goals together?

We talk to clients – no matter if it is a GM looking for a team development activity for his ten directors or a conference organiser who is looking for an activity to engage and connect 800 participants at a conference. We ask WHY, for WHOM, and WHAT should be the final image, the final outcome of the activity. Clients sometimes have vague expectations, and we help them to shape their focus on outcomes that matter most and make people more connected, satisfied and skilled.

I would like to emphasise the need for networking/icebreaking/engaging activities at conferences because, in Slovakia, we still see a model of one-way communication, long presentations and shy participants. I believe it belongs to the 20th century. This meeting design is unable to meet the needs of today’s participants.

“Team building is a very effective way to develop soft skills and learn to work together.”

Q3: How do you help organisations choose the right activity?

It is important to know who the target group is, what the culture in the company is, what kind of working styles they use, what kind of leadership they cherish, and what is the vision of that specific company and its overall goals. If we do it for conference organisers, we need to know who is coming to the conference, what is the agenda and overall meeting design and what should be the outcome of an activity.

Q4: What are the most valuable benefits a team or company can get out of team building?

1. If analysis with us is done in an honest way;
2. If the client who we talk to is honest with themself and has a good; understanding of what is going on in their team;
3. if a client who we talk to is the person that can influence things;
4. if we have all the information we need;

…then the ROI of the teambuilding activity can be huge (300% and more).

In other words: we know from science and our experiences that team workshops/team training/team building/team learning (you can call it however you like) is a very effective way how we can:

– learn about ourselves and other people
– develop soft skills (we call them human or real skills)
– learn how to work better together

Social learning, or learning in groups, is coded in the DNA of Homo Sapiens – we have been doing it for tens of thousands of years. During the team process, we learn from each other, not from the trainer. Therefore we learn more and faster.

We believe in the power of the group. That is why we are not trainers but facilitators. We deliver some content, but most importantly, we guard the rules and take care of the process, not the content.
