A CENTURIES-OLD CASTLE FOR EVENTS

Perched on a rugged hill sixty metres above the Sava River, Rajhenburg Castle has dominated the surrounding countryside for centuries. It was built between 1131 and 1147 by Archbishop Konrad of Salzburg, an influential landowner. It was meticulously renovated in the past decades and now hosts events in its spacious three halls, atrium and the A3 Restaurant.

Today, the fully restored structure is managed by Kulturni Dom Krško, a local cultural institution. The castle’s visitors can attend various events (concerts, plays, lectures, etc.) and learn about the history of the castle and town at permanent and temporary exhibitions. As they stroll through the building, they gain insight into the castle’s architectural development in the Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance periods up until the present day.

Restoring the castle’s imposing architecture

Art exhibitions are also held in the Great Hall, notable for its four-paned Gothic window featuring a stone cross. Since Rajhenburg Castle is among the most significant medieval castle architectural monuments in Slovenia, the owners place special emphasis on the building’s architectural history. The hall can host up to 200 attendees.

A wine gallery operates in the castle cellar, while the museum shop provides exhibition catalogues and numerous local products, including local chocolate from Brestanica. The castle café serves coffee and excellent pastries. With its picturesque setting, the fully restored castle also makes a wonderful wedding venue. Its setting is ideal for smaller conferences, too.

One of the restaurant’s hallmarks is its A3 Restaurant, where they blend culinary tradition with modern design and techniques. Meeting planners can thus choose among a slew of rooms in the uniquely restored venue.
