Cankarjev dom hosted the 30th Quadrennial Session of the CIE

The conference aims to advance the science of light and lighting

Cankarjev dom hosted the 30th Quadrennial Session of the CIE from 18 to 20 September 2023. Organised by the CIE National Committee of Slovenia, the conference takes place every four years and lasts three days. This year, the main theme was Innovative Lighting Technologies.

The conference presents the perfect opportunity for all interested in the arts and sciences of light and lighting, from science, engineering, design and industry, to converge and discuss their interests with like-minded professionals from the global lighting community.

The conference in Ljubljana’s premier event venue delved into the following themes:

Smart lighting
Sustainable and resilient lighting technologies and practices;
Integrative lighting for outdoors and indoors;
Metrology for new technologies;
Image display in augmented and virtual reality modes.

In addition, attendees at the conference could listen to experts discuss topics such as:

Vision and Colour;
Physical Measurement of Light and Radiation;
Interior Environment and Lighting Design;
Transportation and Exterior Applications;
Photobiology and Photochemistry;
Image Technology.

The head organiser of the conference is CIE – Commission Internationale de l’Éclairage. CIE is an independent, non-profit organisation that serves member countries on a voluntary basis. Originally formed in 1900 as the International Commission on Photometry (CIP), since its restructuring as the CIE in 1913, the Commission has become a professional organisation accepted as representing the best authority on the subject matter of light and lighting. The CIE is recognised by the International Commission for Weights and Measures (CIPM), the International Standardisation Organisation (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) as an international standardisation body.

In Slovenia, a member of the International Association is the Lighting Engineering Society of Slovenia, a non-profit, independent expert association for lighting engineering.

Cankarjev dom is proud to have been selected by the national committee of CIE Slovenia. As Slovenia’s central cultural and conference centre, the venue advocates implementing sustainable and regenerative solutions into event organising.
