The 2nd Liver Interventional Oncology meeting, LIO2023, was recently hosted by Cankarjev dom and attended by hundreds of international experts in the field. The event was organised by the Slovenian Association of Radiology in cooperation with the radiology department of the Faculty of Medicine Ljubljana and ERA Institute. The event was held in Cankarjev dom between 5 and 7 October 2023.
Interventional oncology has emerged as the fourth pillar of liver cancer therapy alongside medical, surgical, and radiation oncology care and is the youngest and fastest-growing offshoot of interventional radiology. The association aims to create an interdisciplinary scientific event with lectures and delegates from different clinical professions involved in the treatment of liver disease. The meeting included international and Slovenian speakers, educational hands-on workshops, and satellite symposiums, with a focus on providing established therapies and presenting the latest research findings and newest technologies.

One of the largest conferences in the field in the Adriatic
The meeting was one of the largest gatherings dedicated to liver interventional oncology in the Adriatic region. It included specialists in radiology, oncology, gastroenterology, surgery, radiation oncology, nuclear medicine, and other branches of medicine, as well as nurses, radiological technologists, and students.
The event provided a unique opportunity to learn from leading experts in the field, share knowledge and experience, and network with colleagues from around the world. Cankarjev dom’s team ensured the event ran smoothly and offered technical support throughout the three-day event.
