Awarding extraordinary scientific contributions

The Zois Award is the most prominent award in Slovenia for achievements in scientific research and development. The award, named after the Slovenian researcher, patron of science and entrepreneur, has been awarded since 1988. A jury selected by the Government of Slovenia awards it annually. Concurrently, lifetime achievements are honoured by the Puh Awards.

Cankarjev dom is hailed as one of the most elite locations in Ljubljana, hosting numerous prestigious award ceremonies. On this occasion, fifteen awards and recognitions of the Slovenian government were handed out on the stage of Linhart Hall for extraordinary achievements in scientific research and development. The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation produced the award ceremony in cooperation with an expansive team that ensured the accompanying music programme ran flawlessly. The technical team included a producer, scene manager, light director and even a graphic designer. In addition, the event was broadcast live by RTV Slovenia. Of course, the event could not have been organised without the technical team of Cankarjev dom and its posse of experienced light, video and scene managers, who know the stage of Linhart Hall like the back of their hands.

The Zois Awards for lifetime achievements were awarded to physicist Danilo Zavrtanik and mathematician Joso Vukman, while the Puh Award for lifetime achievements roamed into the hands of Jože Vižintin. Prof dr. Maruša Bradač received the title of ambassador of science from the Slovenian Government for her contributions to raising the prominence of Slovenian astrophysics locally and internationally. The world-acclaimed astrophysicist began her academic career in Slovenia and continued her path in the US. In her storied career, her ideas and expert articles have contributed generously to measuring the existence and properties of dark matter and the first galaxies that formed in the universe.
