In an innovative move that redefines the intersection of tourism, remote work, and lifestyle, the Ministry of Tourism of Bulgaria and the municipality of Belitsa proudly announce the renaming of a street in Semkovo to “Nomad Place” (in Bulgarian: “Номад плейс”).

This initiative, a global first, exemplifies Bulgaria’s commitment to pioneering tourism strategies and embracing the digital nomad trend.

By acknowledging the lifestyle of digital nomads, the nation is positioning itself as a leader in offering unique, adaptive tourist experiences that cater to a new, modern traveller and remote workers.

Accommodating the needs of digital nomads and remote workers

The ceremony, symbolizing a significant shift in Bulgaria’s tourism narrative to embrace the remote work future, was graced by Minister of Tourism Zaritza Dinkova, Mayor Radoslav Revanski, and Erten Anisova, Chair of the Committee on Tourism in the parliament and Matthias Zeitler, Chairman Coliving Semkovo Cooperative.

This event showcased Coliving Semkovo, a prime example of Bulgaria’s innovative approach to accommodating the needs of digital nomads and remote workers.

Coliving Semkovo offers an expansive space for a global community to work, live, and engage in cultural activities, set against the backdrop of the stunning Rila mountains.

The facility is a testament to Matthias Zeitler’s vision of building a Nomad Utopia that blends lifestyle and work, featuring amenities tailored to the needs of digital nomads.

The Ministry of Tourism of Bulgaria views the renaming of the street to “Nomad Place” as a strategic step in showcasing Bulgaria’s innovative spirit and its adaptability to the evolving needs of modern tourists and workers. This initiative goes beyond a simple renaming; it is a landmark in Bulgaria’s journey towards becoming a global hub for innovative, experience-based tourism.

The development of the Semkovo resort is a top priority for the local government in Belitsa and the people of the municipality. A large part of the infrastructure has already been built or fundamentally repaired – said the mayor Radoslav Revanski. The General Development Plan of the tourist area is also ready, which foresees a new chairlift and the construction of small buildings for the needs of tourists.
