Ahead of the Meetings Star award ceremony, honouring the best regional hotels, destinations and most influential individuals in the meetings industry, we talked to the finalists of the esteemed competition. Žiga Židan, Hotel Manager of Triangel Boutique Hotel, explained how maintaining the high expectations of guests is much harder than evolving service.

INTRO: Can you describe your hotel using only four words?

Cosy, homely, sincere, modernly authentic.

Q1: What differentiates your hotel from others?

Unique location with one of the most beautiful panoramic views in the Alps overall, sincere complete service, comfort, dedicated and affiliated staff.

Q2: What are the novelties of your hotel in 2024?

Further steps towards sustainable service and internal and external adaptation to climate change.

“We should limit over-consumption and over-production, exploit local assets and resources, respect local identity and diversity, and stop wars.”

Q3: As one of the leading experts in the industry, what are your thoughts on the ChatGPT craze? Is this another marketing hype or an actual tool that will make boring, routine jobs a lot easier?

Up to now, we have tried it only once. What we have experienced has been surprisingly positive. So, as a tool, it might be very helpful.

Q4: What skills should a 21st-century hotelier possess?

Good envisioning, knowing your product, positioning within the local and broader environment, adaptability, and digital marketing knowledge.

Q5: We cannot avoid discussing the sustainable transformation of our industry. What must we do to create a world where more than nine billion people can live decently within planetary boundaries?

Distribute natural resources, wealth and goods more evenly, give everyone access to health services, education and clean technologies, limit over-consumption and over-production, exploit local assets and resources, respect local identity and diversity, and stop the wars.

Q6: What is your definition of true hospitality?

Honest authentic service.

“It’s easy to get your service to a high level. It’s much harder to maintain it and justify the high expectations it raises in the eyes of all your guests.”

Q7: Can you name one problem the entire meetings industry should solve together?

It is not a problem of the industry but of the entire civilisation – it’s climate change!

Q8: Do you enjoy podcasts? Which is your favourite?

Not really. If I had to mention one, I would say Tour202 on Val 202 about cycling.

Q9: What is the best travel advice you have ever received?

It’s easy to get your service to a high level. It’s much harder to maintain it and justify the high expectations it raises in the eyes of all your guests.

Q10: If you could take anything home from your favourite hotel, what would it be?

A memory of a complete experience of ambience, service and surroundings where it is located.
