Gaining a new client is an achievement, but keeping them for 28 years is an art form!

Between 14 and 15 March 2025, Cankarjev dom hosted the 28th Schrott’s Days, an annual conference dedicated to Slovenian doctors of family medicine and other doctors and pharmacists who wanted to renew their knowledge and gain further know-how in family medicine. This year, the event was attended by over 350 attendees.

A few years ago, the President of the Organisational Board, Doctor Rajko Vajd, MD, explained why they decided not to change the event venue in 28 years: “Cankarjev dom is a world-class co-organiser, with whom we have been collaborating for 24 years. They understand and adapt to our needs and capabilities, and together, we create a fantastic event every year. We organised two excellent events even during the pandemic because of good planning and flexibility.”

Since the first edition, the format of the conference has not changed much, but the content perpetually evolves alongside trends in family medicine. What has remained the same is the iconic venue.

Gregor Rogač

Project Manager at Cankarjev dom

Gregor Rogač, Project Manager at Cankarjev dom, who has been involved in the organisation of the conference for the past two decades, shared his view on building meaningful relationships with clients: “In Cankarjev dom, we host and organise diverse events. Our clients are just as diverse as the events. Some wish to change the location every year in the hope of making the event more dynamic and intriguing for the attendees. Others prefer to stay in the same location, reducing stress for the organisers and the attendees. Many also return to the same location after bad experiences elsewhere. In any case, the organisers would not return to the same location if they were not satisfied with it.”

“I personally strive to establish a transparent and open relationship with clients from the first meeting onwards. I listen to their proposals and wishes, present the possibilities of executing the event and openly share any possible setbacks. Together, we seek the best possible solutions. My first-hand knowledge of the in-house technical equipment is of great help. I find it valuable that I help clients in the planning, execution and end phase of the event as the Project Manager. That way, the client always has the same contact to refer to and consult with. In the last phase of preparations ahead of larger conferences and events, the client gets acquainted with the entire technical team, who ensure the event runs flawlessly. That way, we instil trust in them and build on our cooperation. When you love your work, clients can feel that!”

The first Schrott Days were organised in 1997. They aimed to gather all specialists of different professions in one place. That way, they could shine a light on different viewpoints on the clinical topic and present all novelties important for doctors of Family Medicine. In just a few years, this congress grew into one of the largest and most important meetings in the field.

The so-called Schrott’s days were named after the first specialist in Family Medicine, who was at the time called General Medicine, Doctor Janez Schrott. He was born in 1908 and graduated from the Medical Faculty in Zagreb in 1932. For decades, he worked in general and family medicine. One of his ideas was to establish the profession of a doctor of family medicine.

The congress is organised by the Association of Family Medicine Physicians and the Family Medicine Development Institute.
