Cankarjev dom – CD Cultural and Congress Centre Ljubljana hosted from 23 to 25 September 2020 the VIII. Congress of the Slovenian Microbiological Society. Due to the epidemiological situation of COVID-19, this congress was different. Even though that the Cankarjev dom, the main Slovenian congress centre, has been hosting events since 1 June 2020, it can also provide virtual meetings and events through the OnAIR Virtual and Hybrid Event Platform. Thus, it provided it also for the congress of the Slovenian Microbiological Society  (SMD).

SMD, which has been operating for more than 60 years, unites microbiologists of various profiles as well as coordinates and supports the progress of all areas of microbiology. Among other activities, the SMD every year organizes its own congress. Programme of the 2020 congress which was hosted online by Cankarjev dom, highlighted the important contributions in the field of microbiology in Slovenia in the period 2017-2020.
