THE CONGRESS ACTIVITY AT THE VALENCIA CONFERENCE CENTRE IN 2023 WILL ATTRACT AROUND 90,000 OVERNIGHT STAYS.

According to the latest study published by the International Congress and Convention Association, the Association Meeting Needs – ICCA 2023 Association Survey, just over half of the associations surveyed confirm that their major events will be held in person, thus consolidating the growing trend since 2021.

At the Valencia Conference Centre, this format was already in place last year, covering almost all the events. And this year, the prevalence of face-to-face attendance at congresses continues to grow. During the spring months, which together with autumn are the high season for this type of event, up to twelve congresses will be held, attracting some 10,000 attendees to the city of Valencia, 42% of whom are international and the rest national. Among the most important of these are: the 34th National Diabetes Congress, the 4th Annual Meeting of the European Society for Paediatric Oncology and the 34th Annual Meeting and Postgraduate Course of the European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR). They will be followed by eleven other congresses, with more than 15,000 attendees as of September, including: the European Thrombosis Congress, ESWI Influenza Conference, EUSOBI (European Society of Breast Imaging) Annual Scientific Meeting 2023, Annual Meeting of the Spanish Neurology Society SEN, Congress of the Spanish Prosthetics Society SEPES and the Congress of the Spanish Society of Primary Care Physicians SEMERGEN.

Valencia’s congress activity will bring around 90,000 overnight stays

Most of these events are of a healthcare nature, accounting for 85% of the total number of congress participants, but there are also congresses focused on sustainability, such as the 15th PASSIVHAUS Spanish Conference, the 37th EFFoST (European Federation of Food Science and Technology) International Conference or the 28th International Congress for Battery Recycling ICBR with a major environmental focus.

This congress activity will attract around 90,000 overnight stays, which will have a major direct and indirect economic impact on the city of Valencia, as well as contribute to the deseasonalisation of tourism.
